This time of the year when the evenings get shorter and there is a bit of a nip in the air can only mean one thing; the latter stages of the county championships all over Ireland are in full swing! Here we take a look at what games are on this weekend and what the situation in each Connacht County is as we get towards the business end.
In Sligo, County Senior Champions Tourlestrane will face Coolera/Strandhill in their Semi-Final Replay this Saturday at 4.30pm in Connolly Park, after the two teams drew 2-7 to 1-10 the first day out. On the other side of the draw, Tubbercurry play Coolaney/Mullinabreena in Curry at 5pm also on Saturday.
In the Intermediate Championship, Enniscrone Kilglass take on Shamrock Gaels in Bunninadden Park on Sunday at 4.30pm in the second semi final, with Curry awaiting the winners in the Final, which will take place on the 21st of October, also in Bunninadden Park.
The Junior Final which was due to take place this Saturday between Easkey and Owenmore Gaels has been postponed for a week due to a bereavement in the Owenmore Gaels club. The Final will now take place Saturday 13th Oct at 3.30pm in Cloonacool Community Park.
It’s also semi-final weekend in the Mayo Senior Championship with a massive double header taking place in MacHale Park on Saturday evening. Ballaghderreen and Breaffy meet first at 6.30pm before Ballintubber and county champions Castlebar Mitchells play in the 2nd game at 7.30pm. In the relegation play off also on Saturday, Crossmolina and Davitts meet in Charlestown at 4.30pm.
The Intermediate Championship is at the Semi Final stage with another blockbuster double header in store in MacHale Park, this time on Sunday with Burrishoole and The Neale meeting at 1.30pm and Béal an Mhuirthead and Kiltimagh throwing in at 2.30pm.
Balla have already been crowned Mayo Junior Champions after their 1-12 to 1-7 win over Achill last weekend, breaching a 38 year gap. This weekend in the Junior C, Louisburgh take on Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin in the final in Breaffy on Saturday at 4pm.
The eagerly anticipated Roscommon Senior Final between Clann na nGael and St Brigid’s will take place Sunday the 14th of October in the Hyde. Clann overcame Roscommon Gaels narrowly 1-9 to 0-11 in their semi while Champions Brigid’s beat Strokestown 0-10 to 0-7.
The Roscommon Intermediate Final between Oran and Fuerty is scheduled for the 21st of October in Hyde Park at 4pm. This Sunday in the Junior Championship St Michaels and Kilglass Gaels play their replayed Semi Final in Kilmore at 2pm.
Its County Junior Final weekend in Leitrim, with Glencar Manorhamilton meeting Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher in Ballinamore on Saturday at 4.30pm.
The following Sunday (October 14th) the Senior and Intermediate Finals will go ahead in a cracker of a double header in Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada. Annaduff and Fenagh St Caillins face off in the Intermediate Final at 1pm before the Senior decider between Achadh Mhaoláin and Mohill throws in at 3pm. Achadh Mhaoláin got the better of St Mary’s in their semi 1-12 to 2-7 and Mohill were very impressive in their 3-19 to 0-11 defeat of Glencar/Manorhamilton in their last game.
It’s a massively busy weekend in the Galway Senior Championship, with the four Quarter Finals and four relegation playoffs all down for decision. On Saturday, Annaghdown play St James in the first QF in a double header in Pearse Stadium at 3pm, followed by Mountbellew/Moylough and Maigh Cuilinn playing at 4.45pm. In Tuam Stadium on Saturday at 4.15pm St Michaels meet Kilconly in a relegation playoff whilst at the same time in Clonbur An Cathrú Rua and Tuam Stars meet. The action continues on Sunday with Milltown and Salthill/Knocknacarra and Corofin and Caherlistrane making up yet another mouth watering double header in Tuam Stadium, throwing in at 2pm and 3.45pm respectively. In the Relegation Playoffs, Naomh Anna and Cortoon Shamrocks play in Oughterard at 1pm and CLG Bhearna and Caltra meet in Annaghdown, also beginning at 1pm.
The Intermediate Championship is at the semi final stage, with Pearse Stadium playing host to the double header on Sunday between CLG Oileáin Aráin and Mícheál Breathnach’s at 2.45pm and An Spidéal and Headford at 4.30pm.
