The HRIG – Hamstring Assessment

The HRIG is a world leading hamstring assessment device. Two specific tests have been developed which simulate the mechanism of injury in sport. These tests include a bilateral and unilateral testing protocol have been specifically designed to assess hamstring function.

Introduced in 2023, The HRIG combines over 7 years of research, 400+ individual test cases and a normative data base of over 2,000 players. It has been developed through the Sports Injuries and Sports Medicine Clinic in County Mayo, Connacht GAA Centre of Excellence, John Moores University, Liverpool and a team of sports engineers based at Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom.

The device has been patented worldwide and developed through a number of research papers which have been published internationally and is available here at the COE.

This service overall is aimed at preventing some of the common injuries in our games including hamstring, cruciate and groin injuries. In a 4-year prospective study on injuries in Gaelic football, it was reported that hamstring injuries are the single most common injury in the game, accounting for 24% of all injuries in the game. ACL injuries accounted for 13% of knee injuries. With this in mind, this service is aimed at identifying weaknesses in players and prescribing a corrective program in order to improve these weaknesses.

Club Team Price: €400 for testing (retests are done at a reduced rate).

Single Player: €100 for testing which includes a 10 week corrective program.
