Following Round 3 of the FBD Insurance Connacht GAA Senior League, Roscommon and Galway will face off in the final in what is a repeat of last years final.
Roscommon defeated Mayo by 3 points in their Final league game to top the table in Section A following previous wins over IT Sligo and NUI, Galway. In what was a very competitive game, Roscommon led from the outset with impressive displays from Cathal Cregg and Ciaran Murtagh who both finished with 3points each. In the other game in the group, NUI, Galway cruised to a comfortable victory over IT Sligo, 4-10 to 0-6. NUI, Galway will face Trinity College Dublin in the Sigerson, while IT Sligo will face IT Carlow.
In Section 2 Galway finished with a third straight win defeating GMIT 0-16 to 1-5. Galway had previous victories over Sligo and Leitrim and will now host Roscommon in the final next Sunday. Leitrim had a convincing victory over near neighbours Sligo, 1-11 to 1-6 to add to their previous win over GMIT in round 1.
The FBD Insurance Connacht GAA Senior League Final will take place in Tuam Stadium next Sunday, 24th January at 2pm. Roscommon who are the current champions have captured the trophy on 3 previous occasions, defeating Galway in two of those finals. Galway have not captured the crown since 2009 when they defeated Roscommon. Galway have won the title on six other occasions.
