Connacht Intermediate Semi Final – Sunday 5th November, 2.30pm at MacHale Park
Bohola Moy Davitt’s
Bohola Moy Davitt’s won their first championship in 21 years this year with a hard fought 2-10 to 2-9 victory over Kiltimagh after a replay on October 28th after a draw the first day out, 1-14 to 2-11.
Davitt’s led by five at half time in the replay, but a stirring Kiltimagh saw them fight back, only for Davitt’s to surge again and just pip them to the post after more than 120 minutes of exhilarating championship football.
Seán Kelly the man to kick the winning point right at the death after James Mulderring had already dramatically scored an incredible equalizing goal in injury time.
Bohola Moy Davitt’s have had lots of underage success in recent seasons, in particular at the under 21 grade, so it will have been particularly satisfying for them to see all that potential coming to fruition at senior level.
They were very impressive throughout the championship campaign, and put up huge scores in all group games including an amazing 9-14 to 1-8 victory over Castlebar’s B team.
They got past Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin in the Quarter Final 1-17 to 1-15 and beat Islandeady in the Semi Final 2-11 to 0-13 before their epic 2 games against Kiltimagh in the decider.
Michael Glavey’s
Awaiting them in the Connacht Intermediate Semi Final are Michael Glavey’s, who defeated Fuerty 0-12 to 0-10 in the final of the Roscommon Intermediate Championship.
It was the second Intermediate title in 3 years for the Glavey’s men, and their fifth title in all. This time around they will be hoping to establish themselves as a senior club.
It was unfortunate for Fuerty, who fell to their third intermediate final defeat in as many years at the hands of Iain Daly’s men.
It was a difficult start for Glavey’s in the county final and they found themselves 0-5 to 0-2 behind midway through the first half. They then thundered into the game scoring 5 on the trot to put them 2 up at the break.
Two more fast points after the restart looked to have them home and dry, but a rally from Fuerty saw them reduce the gap to one.
In a tense final minute Shane O’Malley got a hand in to make a crucial interception for Michael Glavey’s when it looked like Fuerty were going to force a draw, allowing them to get up field and extend the lead to 2.
On the day Glavey’s were inspired by Conor Hussey in defence, Caoileann Fitzmaurice around the middle and Cathal Heneghan up front in particular.
It capped off a great season where they defeated Éire Óg, Tulsk Lord Edwards, St Aidans and Oran in the semi finals on their way to glory.
